Information Technology Investment and Firm Performance: A Perspective of Data Quality

While firms are investing heavily in information technology (IT), the evidence of whether or not those investments are rewarded by the improved firm performance is mixed. Many studies have looked at the impact of IT investment on firm performance without considering the effectiveness and efficiency of the information system deployed. This could be very troublesome because different firms adopt, deploy and use information technology differently. Furthermore, more and more firms rely on computer data to conduct business operations and make more solid business decisions to improve firm performance; the quality of data flowing in the firms’ information system has a substantial impact on the quality of services, products, operations, business decisions and the firm performance achieved later on. This paper proposes a study to see how data quality moderates the impact of IT investment on firm performance.
